The Irázola district is located in the Padre Abad Province in the Ucayali region in northeastern Peru . The district was established on June 1, 1982. The district was named after Francisco Irázola (1869-1945), a Spanish clergyman and explorer of the “Selva Central” region. It has an area of ​​2090 km². The 2017 census counted 10,214 residents. The district administration is based in the small town of San Alejandro with 6,158 inhabitants (as of 2017) , located 220  m high on the Río San Alejandro . San Alejandro is 40 km northeast of the provincial capital Aguaytía .

Geographical location

The Irázola district is located in the southeast of the Padre Abad province. The Río Aguaytía, a right tributary of the Río Aguaytía , crosses the district in a northerly direction. The district lies on the western edge of the Amazon basin .

The IRAZOLA district is bordered to the west by the district Padre Abad , on the north by the district Curimaná , in the northeast to the districts Neshuya and Alexander von Humboldt , in the southeast on the districts Tournavista and Puerto Inca (both in the province of Puerto Inca ) and in the south to the district of Codo del Pozuzo (also in the province of Puerto Inca).
