The Neshuya district is located in the Padre Abad Province in the Ucayali region in northeastern Peru . The district was formed on March 16, 2015 from parts of the Irázola district. It has an area of 624 km². The 2017 census counted 9003 inhabitants. The district administration is based in the small town of Monte Alegre , located about 190 m high on the Río Neshuya, with 4518 inhabitants (as of 2017). Monte Alegre is located 75 km northeast of the provincial capital Aguaytía and 50 km west-southwest of the regional capital Pucallpa . The highway from Aguaytía to Pucallpa runs through the district and past the main town of Monte Alegre.
Geographical location
The Neshuya district is in the east of Padre Abad Province. It has a length in north-south direction of almost 38 km and a maximum width of 22 km. The Río Neshuya, a right tributary of the Río Aguaytía , crosses the south of the district and then along the northeastern district boundary in a northerly direction. The district lies on the western edge of the Amazon basin . The original rainforest in the area was cleared over a large area.
The Neshuya district is bordered by the Alexander von Humboldt district in the south, the Irázola district in the west, the Curimaná district in the north and the Campoverde district ( Coronel Portillo province ) in the east .
