The Alexander von Humboldt district is located in the Padre Abad province in the Ucayali region in northeastern Peru . The district was formed on March 16, 2015 from parts of the Irázola district. The district was named after Alexander von Humboldt , a well-known German explorer.

The district has an area of ​​205 km². The 2017 census counted 6,085 inhabitants. The district administration is located in the small town of Alexander von Humboldt , located around 270  m above sea level, with 4564 inhabitants (as of 2017). Alexander von Humboldt is located 55 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Aguaytía and 75 km west-southwest of the regional capital Pucallpa . The highway from Aguaytía to Pucallpa runs through the district and past the main town of Alexander von Humboldt. In Alexander von Humboldt, a road branches off to the south, which leads to Puerto Inca and Ciudad Constitución .

Geographical location

The Alexander von Humboldt district is located in the southeast of the Padre Abad province. It extends over the headwaters of the Río Neshuya, a right tributary of the Río Aguaytía . The district lies on the western edge of the Amazon basin . In the west of the district there is a ridge up to 400  m high in a north-south direction. The original rainforest in the area was cleared over a large area.

The Alexander von Humboldt district borders on the Irázola district to the south and west, the Neshuya district in the north and the Campoverde district ( Coronel Portillo province ) in the east .
