The district of Laraos is located in the province of Yauyos in the Lima region in the central west of Peru . The district founded on August 4, 1821 has an area of ​​403.76 km². At the 2017 census, 546 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 1188, in 2007 it was 960. The district administration is located in the 3563  m high village of Laraos with 397 inhabitants (as of 2017). There is also the village of Lanca in the east of the district.

Geographical location

The Laraos district is located in the central east of the Yauyos province in the Peruvian Western Cordillera and extends over the river valley of the Río Laraos, a left tributary of the Río Cañete . The eastern part of the district, which lies across the continental divide , is drained towards the Río Mantaro . The Río Cañete River flows along the western district boundary towards the south-southwest. The place Laraos is about 20 km northeast of Yauyos , where the provincial administration is located. The western part of the district lies within the reserve Reserva paisajística Nor Yauyos-Cochas . The main ridge of the Western Cordillera runs through the middle of the district. There the mountains Nevado Tanranloc and Nevado Toroyoc rise, both with heights of 5400  m .

The Laraos district is bordered by the Carania and Miraflores districts to the west, the Alis district to the north, the Yanacancha district ( Chupaca province ) and Chongos Alto ( Huancayo province ) to the east, and the Huantán district to the south .
