The district of Zorritos is located in the province of Contralmirante Villar of the Tumbes region in the extreme northwest of Peru . The district was established on November 25, 1942. On April 3, 2006, the newly founded Canoas de Punta Sal district was formed from the southern part of the district . The district of Zorritos has an area of 644.52 km². The census in 2017 counted 12,371 inhabitants. Ten years earlier the population was 10,252. The administrative seat of the district is the seaside provincial capital Zorritos with 7363 inhabitants (as of 2017). Zorritos is located 26 km west-southwest of the regional capital Tumbes .
Geographical location
The district of Zorritos is located on the Pacific coast in the north of the province of Contralmirante Villar. It extends over a semi-desert landscape. The district has an approximately 40 km long coastline and extends about 20 km inland. There are several beaches on the coast. The national road 1N ( Panamericana ) runs along the coast of the district. In the north, the Zorritos district borders on the La Cruz district ( Tumbes province ), in the east on the San Jacinto district (also in Tumbes province), in the southeast on the Casitas district and in the south on the Canoas de Punta Sal district.
