The Casitas district is located in the Contralmirante Villar province of the Tumbes region in the extreme northwest of Peru . The district was established on November 25, 1942. The Casitas district has an area of 919.7 km². The census in 2017 counted 2350 inhabitants. Ten years earlier the population was 4429. The administrative seat of the district is the 134 m high village Cañaveral with 379 inhabitants (as of 2017).
Geographical location
The Casitas district is located about 20 km from the Pacific coast in the east of the Contralmirante Villar province. It extends over a semi-desert landscape. A ridge rises to the south-east, part of which lies within the Cerros de Amotape National Park . The Casitas district is bordered to the west by the district Canoas de Punta Sal , on the northwest by the district Zorritos , to the east by the district San Jacinto ( Province Tumbes ) and on the south by the districts Lancones district and district Marcavelica (both in the province of Sullana ) .
