Doki Doki Morning ( Jap . ドキドキ☆モーニング, Doki Doki Mōningu , literally "heart-throbbing morning," written Doki Doki ☆ Morning ) is a song by Japanese metal band Babymetal . It is the group's first song and was released as a DVD single on October 22, 2011 in Japan . Doki Doki Morning can be found both on the debut album Babymetal , released three years later, and on the album Sakura Gakuin 2010 Nendo: Message by the idol pop group Sakura Gakuin .

The vocals for the song were recorded on October 30, 2010. Its first presentation took place on November 28th in Yokohama , as part of the Sakura Gakuin Festival 2010 , the debut concert of the idol pop group Sakura Gakuin (of which Babymetal was a subgroup until 2013). The song was released almost a year later as a standard download and a limited DVD single. The latter was available in advance at concerts by Sakura Gakuin in Mt. Rainier Hall in Shibuya on October 22nd and 23rd, 2012 , afterwards also in limited numbers in online shops and at Tower Records in Shinjuku . The limited edition came with a DVD with the music video by Doki Doki ☆ Morning , as well as a towel with the band logo. Two re-releases followed : on April 6, 2012 in Japan and on December 13, 2015 in the UK .

Doki Doki ☆ Morning is a typical example of the Kawaii Metal sub-genre , which was significantly influenced by Babymetal , which fuses elements of Metal and J-Pop . Dark, haunting instrumentation alternates with a catchy and happy melody. The lyrics are about teenagers' morning stress before they have to go to school.
Neither of the three girls was familiar with metal at the time. During the recording, Moa Kikuchi (Moametal) remarked that the sound of the song is in direct contrast to Japanese light music (kei-on). For this reason, Babymetal was given the alternative name Jūon-bu ( 重音 部 , "club for hard music") within Sakura Gakuin to emphasize the contrast. Lead singer Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal) commented that she had never heard such musical harshness before, while Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal) was more interested in choreography than singing at the beginning. Nakamoto's singing was recorded separately from those of Kikuchi and Mizuno.

On November 7, 2011, Doki Doki ☆ Morning reached # 80 on Billboard Japan's independent singles and albums charts .
Music video
Toy's Factory uploaded an abridged version of the music video on its own YouTube channel on October 12, 2011 . More than a year later, on November 8, 2012, the full version was uploaded to the official Babymetal channel. The production of the video was under the direction of Shimon Tanaka. By March 2019, the full version had been viewed over 23 million times and the short version over 2.5 million times. You can see the three girls from Babymetal, who rise from hell after a cartoon-like opening sequence and then dance in a stylishly furnished room, in a clockwork and in a cellar - sometimes accompanied by dancing skeletons.

The alternative metal band Kiba of Akiba created a cover version of Doki Doki Morning , which appeared on March 7, 2012 as a bonus track on the split single Babymetal × Kiba of Akiba .
