album Babymetal (re-release), Metal Resistance

Road of Resistance is a song by the Japanese metal band Babymetal that combines elements of speed metal and symphonic metal . It is a cooperation with Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce . The song was released as a digital single on February 1, 2015. It can be found both on the international re-release of the debut album Babymetal and on the follow-up album Metal Resistance .

publication

The song premiered live on November 8, 2014 at a concert at Brixton Academy in London , the penultimate appearance of the 2014 Babymetal World Tour . The song was unreleased and completely unknown at the time. As a result, cell phone recordings circulated on the Internet by fans, who gave the song the unofficial title The One . The first official release took place on January 7, 2015 on the live album Live at Budokan: Red Night Apocalypse as a free digital bonus track, which could only be downloaded if the album had been pre-ordered. On February 1, 2015, the song was also released as a digital single . It also appeared on the international re-release of the debut album in 2015 and on the album Metal Resistance in 2016 .

composition

Musically, Road of Resistance is a mixture of Speed Metal and Symphonic Metal . The lyrics are about the band treading their own path to carry metal resistance out into the world. This anticipated the title of the then non-existent follow-up album Metal Resistance .

The song is similar to the style of the British metal band DragonForce . In fact, two of its members, Herman Li and Sam Totman , were involved in the production and responsible for arranging the guitar tracks. Kei Kobayashi, the executive producer , described the collaboration with the members of the DragonForce band as follows: “We thought we could do something with them when we were recording our demo for Road of Resistance . We offered them to join us and they accepted. The recording sessions with them were wonderful and they also kept their unique style (…) We got along well. ” Mixing and mastering was done by Ettore Rigotti from the Italian metal band Disarmonia Mundi .

reception

Road of Resistance received mostly positive reviews from critics, with most praising the collaboration between Babymetal and DragonForce. Rock Sound described the song as “everything we would expect from [Babymetal], plus a dose of delightful guitar dexterity from DragonForce. And the chorus has a hook the size of a small country. ”The Digital Journal described the song as“ crazy but unexpectedly melodic ”.
