Ijime, Dame, Zettai ( Japanese イ ジ メ 、 ダ メ 、 ゼ ッ タ イ , Ger. About "Never again chicane", in English sometimes referred to as No More Bullying, Forever or IDZ ) is a song by the Japanese metal band Babymetal , the elements of speed Metal and J-Pop combined. It is Babymetal's first single on a major label and was released in Japan on January 9, 2013. It contains the song Catch Me If You Can as the B-side . Both songs can also be found on the debut album Babymetal , released in 2014 .

publication

The upcoming release was announced after a concert at Shibuya O-East in Tokyo on October 6, 2012. A short excerpt was shown on the band's official YouTube channel in a video called Babymetal - My First Heavy Metal in Tokyo 2012 . The single was released on January 9, 2013 in four versions: a standard version and three limited versions called "I", "D" and "Z". The DVD of the limited versions either contained additional footage to the music video by Ijime, Dame, Zettai or the recording of a live performance by Babymetal. Visitors to the Legend I, D, Z Apocalypse concert series received a promo version with a cover on which one of the three band members was depicted. In contrast to the singles previously released by Jūonbu Records, none of the songs published on Ijime, Dame, Zettai was also published on an album by Sakura Gakuin .

composition

Ijime, lady, Zettai

The style of Ijime, Dame, Zettai is speed metal , the lyrics call for the fight against bullying . The serious lead vocals by Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal) contrasts with the encouraging sounding background vocals by Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal) and Moa Kikuchi (Moametal). The song is sung in C sharp minor , changes to F minor and G sharp minor in the bridge , and finally ends in E minor . The guitar solos of the "Nemesis Version" on the limited editions of the single come from Christopher Amott , the former guitarist of the band Arch Enemy .

More songs

The same writers responsible for the previous single Headbanger also produced the B-side. The song Catch Me If You Can contains elements of industrial metal as well as a death growl intermezzo, which is inspired by the Japanese Namahage folk custom. The humorous lyrics are about girls playing hide and seek with demons ; there is also an allusion to the fairy tale The Red Shoes by Hans Christian Andersen .

Babymetal Death (only available in the limited editions) begins with a symphonic intro and leads to a main Death Metal section in which aggressive voices scream the words "Babymetal Death" letter by letter. The minimalist lyrics are a play on words that take advantage of the voicelessness of the vowel / u / in many Japanese dialects; this is Death (Engl. "death") identical with desu . As a result, Babymetal Death can also be understood as Babymetal desu ("we are Babymetal"). According to producer Kobametal, the song's short teaser was released as a bonus on Headbanger !! was released, a tribute to You Suffer by Napalm Death .

reception

Rolling Stone Japan found the song Ijime, Dame, Zettai “extremely excellent”. Despite the rather depressing subject of bullying, it is very uncomplicated and enriched with cute heckling, which ensures a balance between seriousness and humor.

Music video

A short version of the music video for Ijime, Dame, Zettai was released on November 8, 2012. The full version was released on November 27th on Babymetal's official YouTube channel.

The video shows a dystopian world where metal music is followed and its fans are harassed. To combat this condition, the three girls are conjured up by Babymetal. They ensure a revival of the spirit of metal and call for resistance. The costumes worn in the video are red and black, as are the medieval armor inspired by Joan of Arc . During the bridge of the song, Mizuno and Kikuchi fight each other in a kind of “metal guitar battle” using guitars that were warped and damaged in the first few scenes of the video.

A live version of the song, recorded at the Sonisphere Festival 2014 in Knebworth , was also uploaded to the YouTube channel as a music video on August 26, 2015. By March 2019, the videos on YouTube had been viewed over 22 and 8.8 million times, respectively.
