Domenico Serafini

Domenico Cardinal Serafini OSB (born August 3, 1852 in Rome , Italy , † March 5, 1918 ibid) was Archbishop of Spoleto and later a Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Domenico Serafini came to his school days in the Benedictine - Abbey Subiaco and laid in 1874 the profession from. He studied his order in various houses and at the Pontifical Gregorian University , the subjects Catholic theology and philosophy . In 1877 he received the sacrament of ordination . From 1889 to 1891 he worked as a novice master in the Subiaco Monastery , and from 1891 to 1892 he was prior of the St. Scholastica Monastery in Subiaco . From 1892 to 1896 he worked in Rome as General Procurator of his order. In 1896, his confreres elected him Abbot of Subiaco and Abbot General of the Congregation of Cassinese from the original Observance , now known as the Congregation of Subiaco .

On April 16, 1900, Pope Leo XIII appointed him . to the Archbishop of Spoleto. He received his episcopal ordination on May 26th of the same year by Cardinal Serafino Vannutelli . In 1904 Pope Pius X sent him to Mexico as an apostolic delegate , and in 1911 he made him an assessor at the Holy Office . On 2 March 1912 he was appointed Titular Archbishop of Seleucia Pieria appointed and on 25 May 1914 as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Cecilia in the College of Cardinals received. On January 26, 1916, Pope Benedict XV appointed him . first to the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for Religious , on March 24, 1916 then to the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith .

Domenico Serafini died on March 5, 1918 in Rome and was buried in the " Campo Verano " cemetery there.
