Domenico Tarcisio Cortese

Domenico Tarcisio Cortese OFM (born February 7, 1931 in San Giovanni in Fiore , Province of Cosenza ; † November 11, 2011 in Rome ) was an Italian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Mileto-Nicotera-Tropea .

Life

Domenico Tarcisio Cortese joined the order of the Franciscans in Assisi (San Francesco d'Assisi) and made profession in 1952 . After his ordination on May 23, 1954, he completed a degree in canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University . From 1968 to 1977 he was Provincial of the Franciscans in Calabria and from 1977 to 1979 Superior of the Convent of S. Francesco di Paola a Cosenza.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Mileto-Nicotera-Tropea on June 15, 1979. He was ordained episcopal by the Archbishop of Reggio Calabria and Bishop of Bova , Aureliano Sorrentino , on September 8, 1979 in the Cathedral of Mileto; Co- consecrators were Enea Selis , Archbishop of Cosenza e Bisignano , and Armando Fares , Archbishop of Catanzaro and Bishop of Squillace . With the union of the dioceses of Mileto and Nicotera-Tropea, he became the first bishop on September 30, 1986. For many years he was Vice President of the Calabrian Bishops' Conference .

On June 28, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related resignation. Bishop Cortese died of a heart attack in the house of the Salesian Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (SOSC) in Rome, where he lived, and was buried in the Cathedral of Mileto.
