Dora Duncker 1898

Dora Duncker (born March 28, 1855 in Berlin ; † October 9, 1916 there ) was a German writer and journalist .

Life

Dora Duncker was a daughter of the publisher Alexander Duncker and the niece of the left-liberal newspaper publisher and co-founder of the German trade union movement Franz Duncker . She was taught by private tutors and went on study trips through Austria , Tyrol , Northern Italy and Switzerland . In Munich she made the acquaintance of the painters Carl Theodor von Piloty , Hans Makart and Franz von Lenbach and the writer Paul Heyse . Dora Duncker had been married since 1888; the marriage, from which a daughter emerged, was divorced after a few years . Duncker then lived as a freelance writer and journalist in Berlin.

Dora Duncker has written novels , short stories , essays , poems and plays . In addition, she wrote theater reviews and published the colorful year children's calendar from 1885 to 1897 .

Dora Duncker repeatedly wrote novels and plays in which she portrayed women, thereby bringing them into the limelight and thus bringing up the role of women in society.

Duncker, who had had lung disease for years, died in 1916 at the age of 61 and was buried in the Old Twelve Apostles Cemetery in Berlin-Schöneberg . The tomb was later cleared. On September 2, 2018, a new memorial stone was placed on the former grave at the initiative of the Protestant parish.
