Dorell Lawrence Wright (born December 2, 1985 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American basketball player.

Player career

Coming straight from high school, Dorell Wright signed up for the 2004 NBA Draft with no college year . There he was selected by the Miami Heat in the first round in 19th place. His early days in the NBA were difficult. In his first season he came in just three games on a modest 27 minutes total playing time. His situation improved little in the second season. In the playoffs in which the Miami Heat won the title, he was not used. In the 2006/07 season he got more playing time for the first time. In 66 games he ran for an average of 19.6 minutes and scored 6 points at 4.1 rebounds per game. In the following season he was able to improve his statistics with 7.9 points at 5 rebounds until he missed the rest of the season due to a meniscus tear in early March and only made six short appearances in the next season due to the injury. In his last season for Miami, he was able to build on the performance before his injury with an average of 7.1 points in 72 games. As part of the changes to LeBron James and Chris Bosh at the Miami Heat, Wright moved to the 2010/11 season as a free agent for the Golden State Warriors . There he had his best season by far. He was in the starting line-up in all 82 games and was the third-best shooter of the Warriors with an average of 16.3 points and 5.3 rebounds. With 194 sunk three-point throws in 516 attempts, he led the statistics in both categories. Wright took third place in the Most Improved Player election .

After another season with the Warriors, Wright was transferred from the Warriors to the Philadelphia 76ers in the summer break of 2012 . In addition to the Warriors and the 76ers, the New Orleans Hornets , who sent Guard Jarrett Jack to the Warriors, were involved in the trade.

After a year with the Sixers, he switched to the Portland Trail Blazers in 2013 . Wright failed to convince, however, and increasingly fell out of the Blazers' rotation. In the 2014–15 season he only scored 4.6 points on average. After the season, he was fired from the Trail Blazers.

For the 2015-16 season Wright moved to the Chinese Chinese Basketball Association and played for Beikong Fly Dragons. In China, he was one of the stars of the league, scoring 24.3 points and 7.5 rebounds in 37 games.

Wright signed with the Heat in April 2016. However, he was no longer used during the season and was used in the playoffs. His contract was not extended thereafter.

At the beginning of October Wright signed with KK Igokea Aleksandrovac in Bosnia for the current 2017/2018 season. After only four games, he moved to the reigning German champion and EuroLeague participant Brose Bamberg in the BBL on October 27 for the rest of the season . In Bamberg, he demonstrated his accuracy from beyond the three-point line and supported the team as an experienced veteran. Despite existing offers from other clubs in the EuroLeague, Wright decided to sign a one-year contract with the Russian EuroCup participant Lokomotive Kuban Krasnodar .

Others

Wright's brother Delon was selected 20th in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors .
