The church

The Evangelical Lutheran village church Ehrenhain is located in the Ehrenhain district of the Nobitz community in the Altenburger Land district in Thuringia .

history

The Ehrenhain village church is one of the oldest churches in the Altenburger Land. However, it cannot be proven exactly. The 40 meter high bell tower looks out over the town. Inside there is a late Gothic tabernacle with the year 1521.

Building description

The stately hall church has a late Gothic , polygonal choir and the bell tower in the west. The choir, shifted from the axis of the nave to the south, was built at the beginning of the 16th century, the tracery windows were later restored. On the south side of the choir is a two-storey extension with a stair tower . Originally the construction of a wider nave was planned, but it was not carried out. The intended enlargement of the nave is still marked by the demolition points on the base and on the coffin cornice. The core of the existing nave is Romanesque . During the restoration in 1991/92, remains of arched windows were exposed on its north and south sides . In 1748 the nave was increased and new windows were installed. The vaulted hall on the first floor of the tower is said to date from 1596. In the nave, galleries were built in on three sides and two-storeyed on the long sides. On the upper gallery is the patron's box with a groined vault . A sacristy with a ribbed vault was added to the south side of the choir . The nave and the choir have flat ceilings .

Furnishing

The altarpiece was created by Johann Böhme around 1655 . It has ornate architectural frames and flat reliefs. The predella shows the Lord's Supper , the arched, closed main picture shows the transfiguration of the Lord and the excerpt shows a half-length figure of God the Father . To the side of the main picture are niches with pilasters and columns with cranked entablature, cartilage and two round pictures with the Mount of Olives and the Crucifixion . A large, stone sacrament house was built on the northern choir wall in 1525 . On the richly decorated foot stands a polygonal, protruding case, structured with blind arches and decorated with finials and crabs .
