history

As early as 1220 there was a first church in the Emstal, which was replaced by a successor building in 1541. This (?) Was destroyed in a fire in 1709. The church patronage lay with the Lehnin monastery until 1542 , then with the sovereign. At his behest, a new building was built from timber in 1711 . His choir had a five-eighth closing ; a west tower extended above the west gable . In 1875, parts of the framework had become so dilapidated that these facade parts were replaced by yellowish-brown bricks . During these renovations, the nave received its large arched windows.

From 1885 to 1887 there were considerations to expand the church considerably, as the number of inhabitants in Emstal had meanwhile risen sharply. The plans were implemented in the years 1889 to 1891 under the direction of the Brandenburg building councilor Köhler. The ship was extended to the west. Köhler was able to fall back on the same bricks that were already used when replacing the framework. In addition, a new west tower and a new choir were built. Only the base and the roof truss were taken over from the previous building. In the course of the expansion, a new Friedlich was built south of the village in 1890; funerals were held around the church until around 1900.

The tower was damaged in World War II and restored in 1950; the roof re-covered. In 1965 the interior was renovated, during which a large part of the original church furnishings were removed. Under the west gallery one was winter church . Until 1970 Emstal was a branch church of Rädel and at no time was it equipped with parish hooves . From 1992 to 1995 it was repaired again.

The Brandenburg State Office for the Preservation of Monuments and the State Archaeological Museum (BLDAM) honors the church in its monument database as a “typical testimony to the rural church building of the 19th century, which was characterized by extreme frugality.” The different styles are “not as a break, but as a design element that emphasizes the special importance of the tower and choir ”. In addition, it forms "due to its dominant location and the towering tower with its pointed helmet [the church] also forms a landmark that can be seen from afar".

Building description

West portal

The choir is straight and moved in. At the end of the choir , the remains of the three added arched windows can be seen. Above it is an ox-eye in the gable . It was made from red bricks that were made in a brick factory in Rathenow . There is a large arched window on the north and south walls.

This is followed by the nave to the west . Here Köhler used yellowish-brownish bricks and had four high arched windows built into the long walls. The three windows to the east on the south side were shortened at a later date. There was a porch with a portal. Like the choir, the nave has a simple gable roof . The ship and the corners of the choir are each decorated with pinnacles .

The square church tower was again made of reddish bricks from Rathenow. It can be entered from the west through a large arched portal. On the north and south sides there are two smaller arched windows, above each a German band , and one arched window in between. Above a cornice is the bell storey with two arched sound arcades on each side. The tower carries a eight-bent spire , which with tower ball closes and cross.

Furnishing

The originally existing altar , the pulpit and the fifth were removed in 1965 and reshaped with simple reddish bricks. The chancel is raised by one step, the choir is separated from the hall by an arched opening with an inscription. The west gallery , the stalls and the neo-Romanesque front of the organ have been preserved from the 19th century furnishings . The building has a flat roof and a plaster ceiling. The roof structure probably dates from the construction of 1711.

The organ dates from 1891 and was built by Friedrich Wilhelm Lobbes . The instrument has six registers , a manual and a pedal .

Two bells hang in the tower, which were cast in Bochum in 1926 . At the entrance to the church there is an obelisk, which commemorates the fallen of the First World War . It is framed by a linden tree and a red oak.
