Leussow village church

The Protestant village church Leussow is a listed church building in Leussow ( town of Mirow ) in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

Building history

The previous church was a half-timbered building and stood in the old churchyard, next to which there was a consumer branch in GDR times . Due to dilapidation, it was demolished in 1867.

The current village church in Leussow was built in 1868/70 by the Rehberg company in Mirow under the direction of the master builder Fitzner, a student of Friedrich Wilhelm Buttel . It is a brick building with a west tower and a semicircular apse .

In 1925 the brother organ, built in 1887, was installed in the west gallery.

Furnishing

The interior is covered with a flat wooden ceiling. The altar , crucifix and pulpit are from 1870. The altarpiece on the east wall is by Charles Maucourt (1750); it was originally located in the Johanniterkirche Mirow until it was replaced in 1868 by a copy painted by Grand Duchess Marie after Albrecht Dürer Christ on the Cross .

The organ on the west gallery comes from Edmund Bruder (1845–1911) from Wismar and was built in 1887 for the teachers' seminar in the Lower Palace in Mirow; after its dissolution, it was moved to the Leussow village church in 1925.

There are two bells in the tower . The younger was cast in Bochum in 1871 and bears an inscription with the name of the donor, the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz . The roof is covered with slate.

The village church of Leussow today belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish Mirow in the Neustrelitz provost of the Mecklenburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany .
