The Protestant village church of St. Bartholomäus is a listed church building in Recknitz, a district of Plaaz in the Rostock district ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ). The Evangelical Lutheran Church Congregation Laage Christophorus is part of the Rostock provost in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany .

History and architecture

The 13th century church originally had the patronage of the Apostle Bartholomew . Mentioned for the first time in 1269, it belonged to the Schwerin diocese . It was the patronage church of the Rossewitz manor . In the base areas there are two alliance coats of arms and one of the von Buch family , who had been the church patron since 1753 .

The masonry of the building consists of field and brick . The choir of the slightly longitudinally rectangular nave has been drawn in and is equipped with a blind gable . While the choir is still closed with the original eight-rib domical vault , the nave was covered with four cross-rib vaults over a central octagonal pillar with round services in the 14th century . The interior is lit by lancet windows in groups of two and three. On the south side there is a vestibule, which is also provided with a screen gable.

The square, narrow-looking tower, like the hall, is made of mixed masonry. The upper part made of half-timbered and brick is crowned by a high hipped roof. The bell was cast in 1370.

The church stands in the middle of a churchyard where several interesting tombstones and a mausoleum of the von Buch family have been preserved.

Furnishing

One of the oldest pieces of equipment is the former main altar, a Marian altar with a crescent moon Madonna in the center, which can be dated to 1420. The altar is decorated with figures of Ezekiel, Moses and other saints also in the wings. Remains of depictions of painted passion scenes have been preserved on the back of the wings. The altar was replaced in 1850 by a neo-Gothic altar with a crucifixion by Gaston Lenthe and was repositioned in a niche in the wall of the church. Since 2003 the altar has been restored at the Dresden University of Fine Arts as part of several diploma theses. A photo in original size is exhibited in the building, it should give an impression of the effect. In 2018, the project, which is about to be completed, was presented as Monument of the Month .

In the choir there are two Gothic double tombstones: those of the knight Joachim Nortmann († 1389) and his wife Gheze, b. Behr, as well as those of the priests Johannes Doberan († 1383) and Nicolaus Dalvitz († 1389).

Also still (late) medieval is a Eucharistic cabinet on the north wall of the choir with a painted Man of Sorrows , probably from the beginning of the 16th century.

After the Reformation , the church was given a wooden pulpit in 1579. It shows the coat of arms of the von Vieregge family . The box stalls and the confessional were probably made at the same time. The patronage stalls are equipped with a blind arcade, it shows the coats of arms of the Levetzow , Vieregge, Restorf and Schwerin families .

A crucifixion painting was also painted in 1579.

organ

The organ prospectus from 1708 by Johann Engelbrecht Gerhardt from Rostock is considered one of the great and beautiful carvings and woodwork in the north.

Behind it is a work by the organ builder Carl Börger from 1904 with a total of 15 stops on two manuals and pedal . The organ was badly damaged by penetrating rain and has not been playable since the 1970s. Because of the enormously high costs, the instrument has not yet been restored.

restoration

The restoration of the building began even before the fall of the Wall , and for years it has been raining into the interior and causing damage. The outer skin of the building has now been sealed.

In 2018 the roof and roof structure will be renewed. In 2018, the parish received funding from the LEADER program for the restoration and refurbishment of the interior, which is to be used culturally in a variety of ways .
