Building

Building history

The oldest part of the village church in Riewend is the church tower in the west. It is dated to the year 1718. The nave probably dates from 1844.

Exterior fittings

The church is a small plastered building . The plaster is yellow in color. The access in the area of the tower is a simple, single-leaf and rectangular wooden door. There is an elongated window above it. The sound holes in the tower for the bells are segmentbogig designed. On a gable roof , which is covered with red beaver tails and stands across the gable roof of the ship, a weather vane with the year 1718 marks the top of the church tower. The windows of the nave are also designed with segmental arches. There are two each to the south and north, which are covered with colored lead glazing . The north shows a heart and an anchor , the south a cross and a white dove . There is a brick chimney on the eastern gable .

Wooden panels in the entrance area

Inside there is a wooden inscription panel in the access area. The main inscription of this in squiggly Gothic script reads: "But man examine himself and so he eat of the bread and drink of the chalice" ("Cor. 11 V 28"). It is believed that the wooden panel is a former altarpiece . Other wood panels carry the names of the fallen Riewends in the First and Second World War .

A pulpit altar is attributed to the baroque . It is located in front of an east gallery . Colored wooden reliefs of the four evangelists are attached to the east gallery . A colored painting has been exposed in some places under the interior plaster. The floor is simply covered with clay tablets. The church stalls come from the St. Katharinen church in Brandenburg . The banks still have the old numbering and are not placed in the correct order.

Church grounds

The church is located in the center of Riewend east of the Dorfstrasse to the Riewendsee . The churchyard is no longer used as a cemetery. However, some old tombstones still exist .
