The Grade II listed village church Tribohm is located in the to Ahrens-Daskow ( Vorpommern-Rügen belonging) Village Tribohm . It is one of the oldest or the oldest preserved church in Northern Western Pomerania.

History and building history

As dendrochronological studies of the roof structure have shown, the church was built around 1250. Stylistic studies show great similarities to buildings at the same time in the Altmark .

Tribohm was first mentioned in writing in 1268, when an Eckard von Dechow (possibly Dechow near Ratzeburg ) bequeathed land to Neuenkamp Monastery . In 1272 the Neuenkamp monastery took over the patronage of the church.

Presumably in 1421 the wooden tower was attached to the nave made of field stone . In 1456 the patronage changed as a gift from the Neuenkamp monastery to the University of Greifswald . During the Thirty Years' War , the interior was destroyed by imperial soldiers around 1628.

In 1745 the church and tower, which were probably destroyed in the Northern War , were rebuilt, and the interior furnishings with altar, pulpit and patronage boxes were designed in Baroque style.

Between 1845 and 1847 the interior of the church was renovated, the color changed and a Buchholz organ by Carl August Buchholz was installed. In 1873 a new bell replaced the old one from 1650.

Current restoration work

Church tower and newly covered roof in 2002

In the course of the 20th century the church building was in need of considerable restoration, so that in 2000 it was considered to be in danger of collapsing. The roof was dilapidated and let water through, the mortar no longer held the field stones together and the wooden tower deviated from the vertical by 60 centimeters. Even before that, in 1997, the small parish had made a makeshift new roof. In 1998 the roof structure was emergency secured with funds from the German Foundation for Monument Protection .

The tower and spire, walls, interior fittings and floor have been repaired since 2002. Until 2006, the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , the German Foundation for Monument Protection, the Foundation for the Preservation of Church Monuments in Germany (KiBa Foundation), the Hermann Reemtsma Foundation , the Zeit Foundation , the Katharina and Gerhard Hoffmann Foundation, the parish and the church district as well as private donations over 750,000 euros for the preservation of the village church Tribohm. The work was completed in April 2010.
