Dorick McGowan Wright (born November 15, 1945 in Belize City - † April 15, 2020 ) was a Belizean priest and Roman Catholic bishop of Belize City-Belmopan .

Life

Dorick McGowan Wright was ordained a priest on April 30, 1980 . Until 1983 he was pastor of La Inmaculada Parish in Orange Walk Town , then the cathedral parish of St John's Cathedral in Belize City.

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Thimida Regia and auxiliary bishop in Belize City-Belmopan on December 12, 2001 . The Bishop of Belize City-Belmopan, Osmond Peter Martin , ordained him episcopal on April 4 of the next year ; Co -consecrators were Archbishop Giacinto Berloco , Apostolic Nuncio in El Salvador and Belize , and Edgerton Roland Clarke , Archbishop of Kingston in Jamaica .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on November 18, 2006 Bishop of Belize City-Belmopan.

On January 26, 2017, Pope Francis accepted his early resignation.

In 1961, Hurricane Hattie , a Category 5 hurricane , lost his mother, two sisters, and younger brother Norman. He himself survived on a coconut tree.
