Giacinto Berloco (born August 31, 1941 in Altamura , Province of Bari , Italy ) is an Italian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

After studying Catholic theology and philosophy , Giacinto Berloco received the sacrament of ordination on March 19, 1966 . Berloco was incardinated in the diocese of Altamura-Gravina-Acquaviva delle Fonti . He was in Catholic theology doctorate and acquired a licentiate in the subject canon law .

In 1972 Giacinto Berloco entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See . He worked in the Apostolic Nunciatures in Costa Rica , the Netherlands and Spain and in the Vatican State Secretariat . On September 5, 1974, Pope Paul VI awarded him . the honorary title of chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) and on June 24, 1985 Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness .

March 15, 1990 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To Titular Archbishop of Fidenae and ordered him to the Pro-Nuncio in Zimbabwe and the apostolic delegate in Mozambique . The episcopal ordination donated him John Paul II on 5 April 1990. Co- consecrators were the official in the Vatican State Secretariat, Archbishop of Curia Giovanni Battista Re , and the secretary of the Congregation for Bishops , Archbishop of Curia Justin Francis Rigali . Giacinto Berloco became Apostolic Nuncio in Costa Rica on July 17, 1993. On May 5, 1998, Pope John Paul II appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in El Salvador and Belize . Berloco became Apostolic Nuncio in Venezuela on February 24, 2005 . Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on June 18, 2009 as Apostolic Nuncio in Belgium . On July 24, 2009 Benedict XVI appointed him. also to the Apostolic Nuncio in Luxembourg . He took age-related retirement in September 2016.

On March 8, 2017, Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Congregation for Bishops .
