Doug Clement
Douglas Bruce Clement (born July 15, 1933 in Montreal ) is a retired Canadian sprinter and middle distance runner .
career
At the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 he was eliminated over 400 m in the preliminary run and came in fourth in the 4 x 400 meter relay with the Canadian team.
In 1954, he finished eighth over 880 yards at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Vancouver and won silver in the Canadian 4 x 440 yard relay.
Two years later he failed at the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 over 800 m in the first round and was fifth with the Canadian 4-by-400-meter relay.
In 1958 he reached the quarter-finals at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff over 220 yards, dropped out over 440 yards and 880 yards in the run-up and took fourth place with the Canadian 4-by-440-yard relay.
From 1952 to 1955 he studied at the University of Oregon , where he was trained by Bill Bowerman , and from 1955 to 1959 at the University of British Columbia (UBC).
In 1962 he was one of the founders of the Kayak Track & Field Club in Richmond with his wife Diane Matheson , where he ran a family doctor's practice.
From 1976 to 1979 he taught sports medicine at Simon Fraser University , then at UBC, where he also worked as a track and field trainer from 1980 to 1987. He also founded a sports medicine clinic in Vancouver .
In 1992 he received the Order of Canada . He was inducted into the UBC Sports Hall of Fame in 1995, the BC Sports Hall of Fame in 2000, and the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 2006.
