Down to Earth is the eighth studio album by the musician Ozzy Osbourne . It was released on October 16, 2001. In the US it reached platinum status in 2003, but was less successful than the previous albums. The song Dreamer also developed into a radio hit in German-speaking countries (number two in Germany).
Emergence
On the long wait since Ozzmosis , Ozzy Osbourne said he was now "in a position not to have to keep to that awful album-tour-album-tour rhythm". After the last album, also in view of the Black Sabbath reunion, tour activities and other activities such as the Ozzfest , something “broke the thread”. The record label and since 1999 also Osbourne's wife Sharon put pressure on Osbourne to bring out an album again. Nevertheless, he took his time. Zakk Wylde had returned to Ozzmosis after an absence from the tours . In addition, with Robert Trujillo (bass) and Mike Bordin (drums), who have been with the band since 1996/97, a new rhythm department could be heard.
Producer Tim Palmer , who also worked for U2 , contributed a lot to the album and helped structure the songs. In the studio, Ozzy Osbourne was surprised by the new technical possibilities such as Pro Tools that had been available since the last recordings. Even so, the songs were intentionally left open so that the album wouldn't sound too sterile. An alienated X-ray from Osbourne was used for the album cover. The title that Osbourne chose because of Black Sabbath's first name, "Earth", did not meet with approval from Sharon Osbourne, as there is also a Rainbow album and various films of the same name. However, Osbourne said he hadn't thought of that.
