Dušan Podpečan began playing handball with the series champion RK Celje in his hometown. There he made his first team debut in the 1995/96 season and won the championship and cup in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 2000. With Celje he won the championship and cup again in 2007, but this time was only second choice behind Gorazd Škof , so that he joined the Swiss Cadets Schaffhausen in the summer of 2007 . In 2009 he returned to Slovenia to RK Koper , won the championship and cup in 2011 and ended his career there in 2013.
