Dubplate48 is often referred to as the "oldest reggae / ska band in Wiesbaden ". It was founded in 2001 and, according to its own statements, bears its name “out of love for Jamaican sound system culture and freshly pressed vinyls ”.

history

The ten-person formation around band leader “Mister Fisherman” emerged in May 2001 from the Hessian ska combo “Somersault”, which has been causing a stir in the scene since 1992. In addition to numerous appearances throughout Germany and England , concerts with scene greats such as Burning Spear , Dennis Brown, Dub Syndicate , Laurel Aitken and Bad Manners should also be mentioned.

After the debut album Night in Kingston 2003, the last album Cook & Curry was released in June 2005 . The opener Sunshine Again could already be seen on the riddim sampler.

Sampler releases exist in the reggae genre as well as in the ska area. In 2003 the band was featured on the samplers riddim CD # 07 and Blue Beat In My Soul Vol.2 . In 2005 the group is also involved in the sampler riddim CD # 19 .

Dubplate48 is also represented on the radio. In the period from February to May 2003 there were numerous interviews and an unplugged session on the local reggae radio station Ganja Bonanza. In April there was also an interview with Hessischer Rundfunk . Dubplate48 were also involved in the XXL home game special “Unfrisiert” on October 5, 2003, in which the “crème de la crème of local musicians” from the 2003 programs was played. The band gave a television interview on GIGA in October 2003.

The band was able to convince at festivals especially at the Sound of Frankfurt 2003, the Chiemsee Reggae Summer 2004 and the Darmstadt Schlossgrabenfest 2005.

style

Today Dubplate48 present a cross-section of Jamaican music history. Their music consists of brass-oriented roots reggae, rock steady , ska , ragga , dancehall and effect-laden dub .

In their performances, the band relies on their own compositions as well as dub interludes, samplers, percussions and backing vocals. The language of the texts ranges from German to English to patois . Timo “Dubminister” Willecke is responsible for the live sound.
