The Duratón is a 106 kilometers long left tributary of the Duero in the Spanish provinces of Segovia and Valladolid in the autonomous region of Castile and León .

The source of the Río Duratón is located on the north side of the Iberian Divisional Mountains ( Sierra de Guadarrama ) in the territory of the municipality of Somosierra . His route leads north-west via Sepúlveda to finally flow into the Duero at Peñafiel .

Tributaries

After the snow melts and after heavy rainfall, the Río Duratón has a large number of more or less small tributaries; however, most of them run out of water in summer and autumn. The largest permanent water-bearing tributaries are the Río Serrano , the Río Cerezuela and the Río Caslilla , which flows into the Río Duratón at Sepúlveda.

The main attraction on the river is the Hoces del Río Duratón nature park with its canyon-like gorges, above which the spectacularly situated Ermita de San Frutos is located. The small town of Sepúlveda with its Romanesque churches and its medieval-looking old town is of historical and cultural importance; The Romanesque church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is located in the suburb of Duratón , which was incorporated in 1970 .
