Dylan Martin Alcott , OAM (born December 4, 1990 in Melbourne , Victoria ) is an Australian wheelchair tennis player and former wheelchair basketball player . He was a Paralympic winner in both sports.

Career

Alcott was born with a tumor on the spinal cord that was surgically removed in the first few weeks of his life, but resulted in paraplegia . He started playing wheelchair tennis and wheelchair basketball in his youth.

At the Paralympic Games in 2008 in Beijing , he won the gold medal at the age of 17 years with the Australian basketball team. The following year he was, like his teammates, awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia . He was also world champion at the 2010 World Cup in Birmingham . In 2012 in London he won the silver medal.

From 2014 Alcott turned back to wheelchair tennis and immediately won several high-quality tournaments in the quadriplegic class . At the Wheelchair Tennis Masters he reached the final. In January 2015 he won the Australian Open and the US Open in singles and also defended the Australian Open title in 2016 . In all finals he defeated David Wagner . In doubles he was in the final of these three tournaments. He also reached both finals at the Australian Open 2017 and won the individual again. The following year he secured the title for the first time in both singles and doubles .

As a result of these successes, he took the lead in the individual world rankings on June 29, 2015. In doubles, fourth place on September 7, 2015 was his best placement.

He won the World Team Cup with the Australian national team in May 2016 . It was the first title for Australia in the quadriplegic class. Only a few months later he managed to win the gold medal in both the singles and doubles competition at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . Heath Davidson was his partner in doubles .

He is studying Commerce at the University of Melbourne .
