The Fuso Ecanter (manufacturer's spelling FUSO eCanter ) is an electric truck in the light commercial vehicle class of the Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation , in which the Stuttgart-based automotive group Daimler AG holds an 89.29 percent stake and also manages it in its Daimler Trucks division .

The Fuso Ecanter, a variant of the Fuso Canter , has a gross vehicle weight of 7.49 tons and a payload of 4.5 tons. The electric motor has an output of 115 kW.

The small truck was presented for the first time in 2016 and the first examples were delivered in 2017. Daimler initially wants to produce 500 vehicles in 2017 and 2018 and plans to start large-scale production in 2019.

idea

The small truck was presented at the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2016 in Hanover and represents the third development generation of the Mitsubishi Fuso Canter 3S13 E-Cell project . A permanent synchronous machine with an output of 185 kW / 251 PS and a torque of 380 Newton meters was used at that time. The power was transmitted to the rear axle via a single gearbox.

On September 14, 2017 in New York, Daimler and Fuso celebrated the start of the delivery of 3 copies of the fully developed eCanter from small series production to the large parcel delivery service United Parcel Service , in which, among other things, they worked together with the office of the Attorney General of the state of New York , Eric Schneiderman , handed over the zero-emission truck to 8 government and other non-profit organizations, such as the New York Botanical Gardens.

Technology and production

chassis

The chassis of the Fuso eCanter due to start small-scale production in 2017 at the 8th generation of the Mitsubishi Fuso Canter in the 7.5 tonne model with a possible load on the chassis of 4.5 tons.

Drive and battery

The electric motor has an output of 115 kW with a torque of 390 Newton meters , which is available from the first rotation, as is usual with electric motors. The drive battery consists of battery packs weighing 112 kg each, which in turn are made up of 100 lithium-ion cells with a capacity of 13.8 kWh per pack. Depending on the configuration, up to 6 individual water-cooled battery packs can be connected to a total capacity of 82.8 kWh and a maximum voltage of 420 volts . This should enable a range of 100 km. The battery can be charged to 80 percent in 9 hours with alternating current , for example overnight. With direct current , 80 percent of the capacity can be charged in one hour using an EU-compliant CCS type 2 charger.

production

Small series production of the eCanter started at Mitsubishi Fuso's main Japanese plant in Kawasaki on July 7, 2017.

Small series production in Europe started on July 27, 2017 at the Fuso Tramagal plant in Portugal in the presence of Portugal's President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Marc Llistosella (President and CEO of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation) and plant manager Jorge Rosa. The Ecanter is manufactured in line with the conventional Canter light truck . The special components for the electric drive train are installed in stations parallel to the production line.
