Home Affairs Commissioner
The Home Affairs Commissioner is a member of the European Commission . The department was newly created when the Barroso II Commission took office on February 10, 2010. Before that, there was the Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security since 1995 , whose office has now been divided into a domestic policy and a justice department , the Commissioner for Justice and Fundamental Rights .
In the Juncker Commission (took office on November 1, 2014), the department was called Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship . Colloquially, the incumbent is also referred to as the EU Commissioner for Migration . The incumbent was the Greek Dimitris Avramopoulos until Ylva Johansson took office under the von der Leyen Commission .
