Eat the Gun is a three-piece German rock band from Münster, founded in 2002 . The genre is hard rock .
Band history
The band Eat the Gun, founded in 2002, originally consisted of four band members: Hendrik Wippermann (formerly Ücüncü) (vocals, guitar), Simon Beizai (lead guitar), Phil Hüls (bass) and Gereon Homann (drums). Since then, the band has released a total of one EP and three albums and played over 600 concerts across Europe.
After the release of the debut EP Kingsize , the band played their first concert in September 2002 in Berlin's SO36 as the opening act for the German rock band Donots . In 2003 Eat the Gun toured across Germany and played around 60 concerts. In 2004 they were invited by the "Jägermeister Band Support", a music promotion program for young German bands, to support the Finnish band HIM on two concerts on their Germany tour at Pier 2 in Bremen and in Dortmund's Soundgarden .
In summer 2004 he won the international band contest "Bilborock" in Bilbao, Spain . In the same year, production of the first album Cross Your Fingers began in the Principal Studios near Münster. The production, in which Mathias Strass was again involved as a producer, took about a year. The album was finally released in March 2006, two years after production began on the band's own label, Eattitude Records.
Between the completion of the album and its release, founding member Simon Beizai (lead guitar) left the band to concentrate on his career as a sound engineer in Berlin and Hamburg. The last concert the band played together with Beizai took place in the Weilburger Waldstadion in front of 20,000 people as the opening act for the band Die Toten Hosen . From now on Eat the Gun toured with Cross Your Fingers mainly in Germany, with their new lead guitarist Nick van Delft on board. The band spent the years from 2006 to 2008 primarily touring and working on a follow-up to their debut album.
At the end of 2007, shortly before the start of production of a new album, guitarist Nick van Delft also left the band. The remaining members decided to continue as a trio in the future and began recording with their new producer Claus Grabke in his Gütersloh studio in spring 2008 . Super Pursuit Mode Aggressive Thrash Distortion was released on March 13, 2009 by the Hagen-based independent label Limited Access Records and was released worldwide. The first three words of the album title Super Pursuit Mode are reminiscent of the American television series Knight Rider .
The third album Runner was released on July 29, 2011 in Europe and on August 30, 2011 in North America on Metalville Records . In 2013, after Phil Hüls left, the band played with the new bassist Peter Bergmüller at the Wacken Open Air .
With the signing of a new record deal with the Hanoverian label SPV / Steamhammer , Eat the Gun released the fourth studio album Stripped to the Bone in 2013 with Stefan “Gudze” Hinz (including H-Blockx) . The band toured internationally in 2013 and 2014 and performed in 2013 a. a. at Wacken Open Air.
With Howlinwood , Eat the Gun released their fifth studio album in August 2015 on SPV / Steamhammer, on which they again worked with producer Stefan "Gudze" Hinz.
Music genre
The EP Kingsize and the debut album Cross Your Fingers already showed elements of classic hard rock. But in comparison to this, the album Super Pursuit Mode Aggressive Thrash Distortion , released in 2009, with its eleven songs is clearly heavier and more groovy, the latter being due to the more dominant bass sound and the “thinned out” line-up. Eat the Gun is often compared to the Swedish rock band Backyard Babies and the Canadian rock band Danko Jones . Her role models include Guns N 'Roses , Aerosmith , Metallica , Mötley Crüe , Black Sabbath and Johnny Cash .
