Eat the Rich , also known as Wealth is a matter of taste , is a British feature film from 1987. It was directed by Peter Richardson, who co- wrote the script with Pete Richens . The film is about a stressed out waiter, the British Home Secretary, Soviet agents and a posh restaurant.
action
Alex is a waiter in the posh restaurant Bastards . He's black, gay, clumsy, and annoying. When he and his more popular work colleague Mark have an argument in front of the guests, Alex is fired. He teams up with some other " freaks " to start a revolution against the system. His goal is to get revenge on his tormentors, the bastard's employees and guests . He and his new friends storm the Bastards and kill the employees and guests. He and his colleagues process these into food for the next guests.
The Bastards is renamed Eat the Rich and appears to continue to run as a posh restaurant. The guests think it's the latest craze, as they are insulted and humiliated there and (allegedly) they are served human flesh. The guests consider the whole thing to be an unusual marketing gimmick.
The subplot tells the story of Nosher Powell, the proletarian interior minister in the election campaign, his spoiled wife and Commander Fortune, a KGB agent who sells weapons to terrorists together with the rock musician Spider.
backgrounds
Among the actors are many well-known rock musicians, including the singer and bassist of the band Motörhead , Lemmy Kilmister , as Spider. The band itself has a guest appearance in the film and released the song Eat the Rich on the album Rock 'n' Roll that same year . Also making an appearance was Shane MacGowan , frontman of folk punk band The Pogues , as Trivial Pursuit playing a terrorist . There are also Paul McCartney , Bill Wyman , Hugh Cornwell and Wendy O. Williams . The name of the restaurant is an allusion to the band Motörhead, which was originally to be called Bastards.
Nosher Powell was a professional boxer and stuntman in Great Britain during his active time and parodies his own daredevil image with the film character of the same name. In addition, the film role is complemented by a political habitus that obviously refers to the arch-conservative British politician Enoch Powell , whose remarks on immigration (such as his “Rivers of Blood” speech) had a strongly polarizing effect that up to continues today.
Reviews
“Bright grotesque with only a few convincing attacks on actual grievances, which are sidelined by their shrill all-round blows. Even friends of the crudest British humor should only get their money's worth to a limited extent, especially since the noisy music also strains the nerves. "
“When the country is about to go bankrupt, the money bags come on the plate. A wonderful classic of British anarcho-humor, which I wish, reading the business news every day, which is not very edifying, that it will become a reality as soon as possible. "
