Eberhard R. Hilf (born January 11, 1935 in Eberswalde ) is a German physicist . He worked as a professor for theoretical physics, most recently until his retirement in 2000 at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg . Hilf is managing director at the Institute for Science Networking Oldenburg GmbH .

Life and work

After studying physics and meteorology at the Universities of Hamburg (1954–1960), Munich (1955/56), TU Berlin (1959/60) and Frankfurt (1960–1963), Hilf was awarded a doctorate in 1967 at the University of Frankfurt. phil.nat. doctorate, in 1972 a doctoral procedure for Dr. rer. nat. habil. at the University of Würzburg , where he completed his habilitation under Professor Rolf Ebert . He worked as a professor of theoretical physics at the University of Düsseldorf (1972), the TU Darmstadt (1972-85) and the University of Oldenburg (1985-2000). Visiting research stays at Yeshiva University , the Goddard Space Flight Center , the University of Washington in Seattle , the Hebrew University in Jerusalem , the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the Université Paris-Sud (University of Paris 11).

Hilf was a founding member and spokesman for the Alliance for Action on Copyright for Education and Science. He was a board member of the German Initiative for Network Information (DINI). In the European Physical Society (EPS), Hilf was a member of the Action Committee for Publication and Scientific Communication, at the Fachinformationszentrum Karlsruhe he was a member of the scientific advisory board. He was also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Virtual Physics Library (ViFaPhys), a BMBF project of the FIZ Karlsruhe and the TIB Hannover .

Theoretical Physics (1954–2000): Thermostatics; Surface and curvature stresses of quantum gases; Prediction of the masses of atomic nucleus isotopes; Neutron and hadron stars; atomic cluster physics; Path integral method; PDMS (plasma desorption mass spectrometry ).

Management of scientific specialist information (since 2000): Open Access scientific information, workflow, retrieval, eLearning, metadata, referral models, verification methods, copyright.
