Ed Case (2019)

Edward Espennet "Ed" Case (born September 27, 1952 in Hilo , Hawaii ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . Between 2002 and 2007 he represented Hawaii's 2nd Congressional Constituency in the United States House of Representatives . Since 2019 he has been the representative of the 1st congressional electoral district of this state.

Family, education and work

Ed Case attended Hawaii Preparatory High School in Kamuela until 1970 . He then studied until 1975 at Williams College in Williamstown ( Massachusetts ) and then law at the University of California in San Francisco . In 1981 he was admitted to the bar and worked as such.

Ed Case has two sons from his first marriage. Since 2001 he has been married to the flight attendant Audrey Nakamura. His cousin Steve Case is an entrepreneur and founder of America Online .

Political career

From 1975 to 1978, Case served on the staff of Congressman and US Senator Spark Matsunaga . Between 1994 and 2002 he was an MP in the House of Representatives from Hawaii . There he was at times chairman of the parliamentary group of the democratic representatives. In 2002, Ed Case narrowly failed in his party's primary for governor of Hawaii. After the death of Congressman Patsy Mink , Case was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Hawaii's 2nd Congressional District. He was able to exercise this mandate between November 30, 2002 and January 3, 2007 after two further electoral victories. In the 2006 House of Representatives election , he no longer applied for re-election, but ran unsuccessfully in the election to the US Senate .

On March 29, 2009, Case expressed his will to run in the 2010 House election for the vacant seat in the 1st Congressional constituency of Hawaii, previously represented by Neil Abercrombie . Behind Charles Djou and Colleen Hanabusa , he only finished third in the primary.

In the 2018 House of Representatives election, Case ran for Hawaii's 1st congressional electoral district after winning 40 percent of a wide range of candidates in the internal party Democratic primary election on August 12, 2018. The previous mandate holder Colleen Hanabusa did not run again. In the November 2018 main election, he met Republican Cam Cavasso, who had previously been a member of the Hawaii House of Representatives . Case won the election with 73.2 to 23 percent of the vote against Cavasso. His mandate began on January 3, 2019 and runs until January 3, 2021.
