Edgar Meyer (born September 5, 1853 in Innsbruck , † February 21, 1925 in Aldrans ) was an Austrian landscape painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Edgar Meyer was born on September 5, 1853 in Innsbruck as the son of the aquarellist Martin Meyer (1821-1897). He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , from 1874 to 1878 at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Eugen Dücker , as well as in Venice and Rome . From 1880 to 1881 he was a member of the Düsseldorf artists' association Malkasten . From 1886 Meyer worked as a professor at the art school in Weimar.

In addition, the determined opponent of Habsburg and Italy founded the Tyrolean People's League . Meyer also co-founded the Tyrolean Folk Art Museum , for which he collected many objects. To do this, he had the Welfenstein ruins near Sterzing rebuilt in a romantic style and equipped with a large collection. However, this building fell victim to a fire in 1918.

Edgar Meyer died on February 21, 1925 at the age of 71 in Aldrans near Innsbruck.

Act

Edgar Meyer created in the Impressionism anklingenden style watercolors and gouache images , including large format, especially mountain landscapes and castles. His works are in the Ferdinandeum and are privately owned.
