Edmund Czaika (born July 15, 1909 in Herne ; † April 18, 1992 ) was a German football player .

Career

Czaika grew up playing football in the youth of Westfalia Herne . Together with Karl Joswiak, he moved up from the youth to the senior team in 1926/27. In the seasons 1928/29 and 1929/30 Czaika celebrated the championships in the 2nd district class and 1st district class and also took 1st place in the Ruhr district league in 1930/31, tied with Germania Bochum. At Piorr the following is noted for this successful phase: "The core formation of Westfalia-Fortuna Herne, which played from 1928 to 1931, must be regarded as one of the strongest teams in the club's hundred-year history". Czaika played from 1934 to 1943 for three (?) Clubs in two different Gauligen as the top division in the German Reich at the time of National Socialism .

For the statement by Green that he had initially played until 3/1935 in the 1934/35 season for Schwarz-Weiß Essen in the Gauliga Niederrhein , then, from 1935 to 1941 , for the league competitor Fortuna Düsseldorf - and played very successfully the contradiction in Bolten, Langer , where on page 438 his access in 1933 by Schwarz-Weiß Essen is listed. On the other hand, Czaika is named explicitly in the history of Fortuna from the 1934/35 season. During his club membership at Fortuna Düsseldorf, he won the Gaume Championship five times and as a result also took part in the final round of the German Championship five times . In his first participation, he made his debut in the second game of Group D on April 19, 1936 in a 2-0 victory over Cologne CfR , he played all remaining games, including the final held on June 21, 1936 in the Berlin Post Stadium. This was decided against 1. FC Nürnberg with the winning goal scored by Karl Gussner in the 120th minute to make it 2-1 immediately before the end of the extra time in favor of Nürnberg. In his remaining 17 out of 24 finals games, he did not get his team through the group stage and 1938/39 on the group finals addition.

He also took part with Fortuna Düsseldorf in the competition for the Tschammerpokal , the cup competition for club teams that was introduced in 1935. He made his debut on September 22, 1935 in Hamburg in a 4-1 victory over Hamburger SV in the second round . Although Fortuna Düsseldorf also took part in the cup competition the following year, he was not used. He played his remaining 14 cup games from 1937 to 1941, with the only time he reached the final on January 9, 1938 , but which was lost 2-1 in Cologne against FC Schalke 04 .

With the selection from the Lower Rhine, Czaika was also active in the Federal Cup. In 1936/37 he was one of the victorious representation in the semi-finals on February 7, 1937 in Berlin against Brandenburg. In the 4: 3 success he formed together with Günther Stephan and Josef Rodzinski the runner row of the Lower Rhine, which also prevailed in the final on February 27 in Berlin with 2: 1 against the selection of Saxony. In the final, however, he was represented by his club colleague Jakob Bender . When the Lower Rhine prevailed on November 15, 1942 in Essen with a 2: 1 against the representation Nordmark and again won the national cup, Czaika had previously participated in the two games against Baden (3: 1) and Kurhessen (6: 2). Again he was not part of the final cast.

As a guest player he was at VfB Stuttgart in the Gauliga Württemberg 1942/43 in the Second World War , as was Rudolf Gellesch from FC Schalke 04. VfB became champions, but Czaika was not used in the final game on May 2, 1943 against 1860 Munich . After the end of the war he returned to Düsseldorf and was part of the Fortuna Düsseldorf team in 1945/46 (Stadtliga Düsseldorf) and 1946/47 in the Berg-Mark district league. With the 2nd place in the games for the Lower Rhine Championship, Fortuna qualified for the Oberliga West starting from 1947/48. At this time, however, Czaika was working as a coach at the Düsseldorf district association SSV Oberkassel and led the SSV into the Lower Rhine League. Later he also worked as a trainer for several other amateur clubs, including BV 04 Düsseldorf .
