Eduard Ille (born May 17, 1823 in Munich ; † December 17, 1900 there ) was a German painter , illustrator , caricaturist and writer .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1842 at the (today's) Wilhelmsgymnasium Munich, Ille was a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, a student of the painters Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld and Moritz von Schwind . Under their guidance, Ille was involved in the elaboration of several altarpieces , such as the church of Brixlegg .

His work as a draftsman for the Munich magazine Fliegende Blätter made him a colleague of Edmund Harburger and Lothar Meggendorfer and also inspired Ille to do his own literary work. In addition, Ille was also involved in 60 issues of the Munich picture sheet .

Eduard Illes' audience was recruited from Munich society, above all from the royal court. Several watercolors, summarized by Ille in a cycle of “time and culture images”, were photographed by the court photographer Joseph Albert and thus preserved for posterity.

In 1868 the Munich Academy honored him with the title of Professor . In 1874 Ille published three sheets on the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm (after Christian Hecht ). From 1890 he became a "Salvator Poet"; In many articles in the Fliegende Blätter he glorified the Salvator strong beer and the traditional annual serving on Munich's Nockherberg .

Eduard Ille died in 1900 at the age of 77.
