Eduardo Herrera Riera

Eduardo Herrera Riera (born September 7, 1927 in Carora , Venezuela , † October 27, 2012 in Lara , Venezuela) was Bishop of Carora .

Life

Eduardo Herrera Riera was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Barquisimeto on December 8, 1955 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on January 7, 1965 auxiliary bishop in Cumaná and titular bishop of Sesta . The apostolic nuncio in Venezuela , Luigi Dadaglio , donated him episcopal ordination on March 25, 1965 ; Co- consecrators were Críspulo Benítez Fontúrvel , Bishop of Barquisimeto , and Crisanto Darío Mata Cova , Bishop of Cumaná. He was a participant in the last session of the Second Vatican Council .

On November 30, 1966 he was appointed Bishop of Guanare . On October 31, 1970 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Barquisimeto and titular bishop of Ubaza . On July 5, 1994, he was appointed Bishop of Carora by Pope John Paul II .

On December 5, 2003, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

After radiotherapy and chemotherapy, Eduardo Herrera Riera called on President Hugo Chávez's deathbed in April 2012 to end street violence and release all political prisoners in Venezuela.
