Eduardo José Castillo Pino

Eduardo José Castillo Pino (born March 21, 1970 in Guayaquil ) is an Ecuadorian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Portoviejo .

Life

Eduardo José Castillo Pino was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Guayaquil on November 20, 1994 . Then he was until 1996 secretary of the Archbishop of Guayaquil Juan Ignacio Larrea Holguín . In Rome he obtained a licentiate in theology and worked from 2001 to 2008 as director of studies at the seminary in his home diocese of Guayaquil, before becoming vicar bishop for the province of Santa Elena .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on March 14, 2012 auxiliary bishop in Portoviejo and titular bishop of Tarasa in Byzacena . The Archbishop of Portoviejo, Lorenzo Voltolini Esti , donated him episcopal ordination on June 1st of the same year . Co- consecrators were Giacomo Guido Ottonello , Apostolic Nuncio in Ecuador , and Antonio Arregui Yarza , Archbishop of Guayaquil . From 2012 to 2014 he headed the sub-commission for doctrine of the faith in the Ecuadorian Bishops' Conference. He is currently President of the Episcopal Commission for Consecrated Life.

On September 14, 2018, Pope Francis appointed Castillo Pino as Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Portoviejo, before being called to Archbishop of Portoviejo on October 2, 2019. The inauguration took place on November 30, 2019.
