Edward Eugeniusz Samsel (born January 2, 1940 in Myszyniec , an area of Poland annexed by the German Reich at the time , † January 17, 2003 in Białystok ) was Bishop of Ełk .

Life

Edward Samsel attended high school in Szczytno (German Ortelsburg ) and entered the seminary in Łomża after graduating from high school in 1958 . After the study of Catholic theology and philosophy , he was on May 23, 1965 by Bishop Czeslaw Falkowski for priests ordained. In 1965 he continued his studies at the Catholic Theological Academy in Warsaw , in 1979 he went to the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome, to Jerusalem and received his doctorate in Biblical Exegesis . Back in Łomża, he lectured at the seminary, became prefect and rector.

On 17 May 1982. Pope appointed him John Paul II. To the titular of Montecorvino and auxiliary bishop in Łomża. The episcopal ordination donated him the bishop of Łomża, Mikołaj Sasinowski ; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishop in Łomża Tadeusz Józef Zawistowski and Edward Ozorowski , auxiliary bishop in Vilnius . His motto was: Spes unica (“only hope”). Bishop Sasinowski appointed him his vicar general .

On March 25, 1992, John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Ełk and on November 16, 2000, bishop of Ełk. In the Polish Bishops' Conference he was a member of the Commission for the Clergy and the Lay Apostolate.

He found his final resting place in the crypt of Ełk Cathedral.
