Edward Ozorowski (born May 1, 1941 in Wólka-Przedmieście , Powiat Białostocki ) is a Polish clergyman and emeritus Catholic Archbishop of Białystok .

Life

Edward Ozorowski was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Białystok on June 21, 1964 by Władysław Suszyński , auxiliary bishop in Vilnius , ( Lithuania ) . In 1976 he completed his habilitation, in 1978 he became an associate professor and in 1994 a full professor of theology , dogmatics and history .

The first appointment of Pope John Paul II as a bishop went to his compatriot Edward Ozorowski, whom he appointed auxiliary bishop in Vilnius and titular bishop of Bitettum on January 21, 1979 . He received the episcopal ordination on April 29, 1979 from the Archbishop of Breslau , Henryk Roman Gulbinowicz ; Co- consecrators were the Apostolic Administrator of Białystok Edward Kisiel and the Apostolic Administrator of Pinsk , Władysław Jędruszuk .

On June 5, 1991 he became auxiliary bishop in Białystok, he was also rector of the seminary . He made a significant contribution to the establishment of a chair for Catholic theology at the University of Białystok . In 2005 he represented the dioceses of Poland at the Synod of Bishops in Rome.

On October 21, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Archbishop of Białystok.

In the Polish Bishops' Conference he was a member of the Commission for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments. He is head of the Department of Systematic Theology of Marriage and Family at the Institute of Family Studies of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw , Chairman of the Scientific Council for Affairs of the College of Theology and Theological Studies in Bialystok, Head of the Chair of Catholic Theology at the University of Białystok.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on April 12, 2017.

coat of arms

The coat of arms is divided into two parts, red and blue, with a white / silver cross in the middle. In the red field, St. Francis , embracing the crucified, in the blue field, Mary, Mother of Mercy.

Behind the coat of arms is the double cross ( patriarchal cross ), above it the green galero with ten tassels hanging down.

His motto is "For him who strengthens" (words of the apostle Paul to the Philippians).
