Wojciech Ziemba

Wojciech Ziemba (born October 15, 1941 in Wampierzów , Subcarpathian Voivodeship , Poland ) is a Polish clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Warmia .

Life

Wojciech Ziemba attended high school in Mielec and Bystrzyca Kłodzka . After graduating from high school in 1958, he worked for two years in the finance department in the National Council's office in Mielec. In 1960 he entered the seminary "Hosianum" in Olsztyn (Allenstein) and received there on 18 June 1967 by Bishop Józef Drzazga the priesthood . From 1970 to 1974 he studied Catholic theology at the Catholic University of Lublin and obtained his doctorate . A study visit to Rome followed from 1979 to 1980 . After his return from Rome he held Bible seminars at the “Hosianum” in Olsztyn. From 1981 to 1986 he was first prefect, then subregens and regens at the seminary there .

On June 19, 1982 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Falerone and auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Warmia . He was ordained bishop on July 4, 1982 by the then Primate of Poland and later Cardinal, Józef Glemp . Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of Wroclaw , Henryk Roman Gulbinowicz and the Bishop of Warmia Jan Obłąk .

His motto is: Dives in misericordia Deus (“God is rich in mercy”).

On March 25, 1992 he became bishop of the newly founded Diocese of Ełk (dt. Lyck ) and on November 16, 2000 Archbishop of Białystok . On May 30, 2006 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Archbishop of Warmia. On June 29, 2006 he received the pallium of the metropolitan from the Pope in St. Peter's Square .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on October 15, 2016.
