Edwin Vurens

Edwin Vurens (born June 6, 1968 in Stompwijk ) is a Dutch former football player and current coach . He played in the Eredivisie for Sparta Rotterdam , FC Twente and Roda JC ; later he was active in the National League A at FC St. Gallen and became Swiss champions and cup winners with Servette FC Genève . He also made an international match for the Dutch national team .

Club career

Vurens began his career in his home village with the Stompwijkse Boys and came to Sparta Rotterdam via RKAVV from Leidschendam in 1986 , where he made his professional debut in the 1987/88 season and scored 2 goals in 15 games. His highest scoring season in Rotterdam was 1991/92; Vurens , who was used in attack or attacking midfield , scored 14 times in 32 games in the opposing box. After twelfth and 13th places in the Eredivisie, the Spartans reached eighth place in 1993, which Vurens had with five goals in 18 games of the first half of the season. He caught the attention of league rivals FC Twente, where he moved during the winter break of 1992/93.

With the Enschedern he made 80 league games in two and a half years, in which he scored 21 goals. Twente was three times fifth with him and played two seasons in the UEFA Cup , but was eliminated in the first round; Vurens scored one goal each against Bayern Munich in 1993 and against Kispest Honvéd FC in 1994 . In 1996 he reached fourth place with Roda in the honor division. After Stevens left the club, Vurens also changed employers; he went to Switzerland for FC St. Gallen , where he played six more games in the 1996/97 season.

With St. Gallen he reached the Swiss Cup final in 1998 , in which he scored two goals for a 2-0 lead. National team

After his active career, Vurens has looked after several Dutch amateur clubs, such as FC Zoetermeer in the 2005/06 season and, from 2007 , the VUC from The Hague in the Hoofdklasse , the third division of the Netherlands . In the 2009/10 season he is also in the highest amateur class coach of the SVARC in Alphen aan den Rijn ; his contract there runs until 2012.
