Egon Restaurant is a Norwegian restaurant chain based on a fast-food restaurant concept developed in Norway , and a registered trademark of the Norrein Gruppen (Norwegian hotel and catering group) in Trondheim .

The name of the restaurant chain comes from the film character Egon Olsen from the Olsen gang . Olsen's melon (bowler hat) has been used as a trademark and logo for the restaurants. Since the Norwegian 14 Olsen Gang remakes (the originally Danish Olsen Gang ) enjoy a very high cult status there, similar to Denmark , East Germany , Eastern Europe etc., there is a very high recognition value and attraction. In addition, the Norwegian Junior Olsen Gang - children's films as a film series to the present time continues were (2001-2010), which are among the most popular and most successful children's and youth films in Norway. Furthermore, in the Egon restaurant utensils various film props and such. B. Melon , Franz Jäger safes , midwife's bags , various pictures and posters etc. relating to the films, exhibited for viewing and decoration.

The concept is based on a high degree of self-service, where the guests have to order and pay for all food and drinks themselves at the bar. The drinks always have to be fetched yourself, only the food is served at the tables. The menus include 12 breakfast options, 12 starters and lunchtimes, 12 main courses, 12 different types of pizzas , starters , salads , sandwiches and burgers , as well as 5–6 different desserts . The interiors at Egons are mostly rough, with brick, rustic wood paneling and other decorative elements - similarly characteristic as in the Norwegian fast-food restaurants at Peppes Pizza .

The first Egon restaurant was opened in Oslo (north beach) in 1984 . The actor Arve Opsahl was invited as a star guest at the opening . Opsahl always played in the Norwegian Olsen - remakes of the original Danish Olsen Gang , the main role of Egon Olsen. There are currently 41 Egon restaurants in Norway (August 2020), of which 11 in Viken , 6 in Trøndelag , 5 in Oslo , 5 in Vestland , 4 in Rogaland , 3 in Agder , 2 in Innlandet , 2 in Møre og Romsdal , 2 in Troms og Finnmark and 1 in Nordland . Several hotels have also replaced the traditional hotel restaurant with a so-called Egon concept . In Trondheim there is a rotating Egon Restaurant on the Tyholt Tower , which always rotates 360 degrees within an hour.
