action

Anton Wolf is released from prison after a year in prison for serious bodily harm resulting in death. He is said to have killed his wife twenty years ago, according to other opinions it should have been an accident. Around the same time, Irene Wolf was elected Vice Mayor of three merged Styrian municipalities , and a short time later the incumbent mayor died in a car accident. Irene has to take over his official duties temporarily, which some villagers dislike.

Anton Wolf senses the chance of big money in a planned bypass road over his property: He and other farmers want their meadows to be converted into building land . Irene is against the rededication as well as against building the road, which would destroy the landscape.

When the prominent chef Paul Berger wanted to reopen the old village inn, Irene also opposed the inn project. She thinks she recognizes the gourmet chef as the man who raped her eighteen years ago at a summer party. In order to prevent the sealing from the construction of the road and also the truck transports from the quarry , Irene suggests to the local council an alternative use of the quarry, for example as a climbing garden or as an open-air stage, after the operator of the quarry wanted to close it in three years at the latest .

Irene also allows Berger to run the inn, for the sake of her brother Georg, who had received training at Berger and is supposed to work as a cook in the new restaurant. Irene later confesses that Georg is not her brother, but her son.

At the summer party she was raped by Matti Kemmer - a paternity test shows that he is Georg's father. Irene prevents Matti from attempting suicide.

production

The shooting took place from June 8th to July 10th 2015, the shooting took place in Styria . The location was, among other things, Tragöß . The film was produced by Film 27 , the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation and ZDF were involved , the production was supported by the TV Fund Austria and Cinestyria Film Commission and Fund . Thomas Vögel was responsible for the production design, Heidi Melinc for the costume design, Walter Fiklocki for the sound and Hannelore Uhrmacher for the mask.

reception

When the film was first broadcast on ORF, an average of 789,000 viewers followed, which corresponded to a market share of 30 percent. When it was first broadcast on ZDF, 5.22 million people saw the film, the market share was 17.6 percent.

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv found that not only the lovers from Die Fremde und das Dorf would be missing, "the Anzengruber story in soap mode" would also lack originality, and the dramaturgy in particular would show weaknesses. "The calm tone and the elaborate film language of Peter Keglevic can only compensate for that to a limited extent."

At the Baden-Baden TV Film Festival , the film was one of the twelve nominated entries for the main competition in 2016, for the Jupiter Award 2017 the film was nominated as the best German TV feature film and Franziska Weisz as the best German TV actress.
