Battleship in the Village is an Austrian - German co-production from 2017 . The television film , directed by Peter Keglevic , was broadcast for the first time on March 22, 2017 on ORF and on May 15, 2017 on ZDF . After Die Fremde und das Dorf (2014) and A Secret in the Village - Sister and Brother (2016), it is the third part of an ORF / ZDF home film series.

During a shooting training session, the 13-year-old Franzi doesn't hit the empty wine bottle as usual, but his grandfather Anton Wolf. Anton falls into a coma , Franzi runs away disturbed without confiding in anyone. Two days later, Anton succumbs to his injuries. The rumor spreads in the village that Anton's son Franz was the shooter, the suspected motive is the ongoing dispute over the management of the farm between father and son. Franz protests his innocence, but his brother Josef seems to be the only one who believes in his innocence. When Anton's grandson Franzi turns himself in to the police, they don't believe him either.

The shooting took place from June 27th to July 29th, 2016, the shooting took place in Styria . Filming locations were, among others, Tragöß and Krakow . The film was produced by Film 27 , with Austrian radio and ZDF involved, and the production was supported by the Austrian TV Fund and CINESTYRIA Film Commission and Fund .

When the film was first broadcast on ORF, an average of 757,000 viewers followed, corresponding to a market share of 25 percent. When it was first broadcast on ZDF, 5.3 million people saw the film, the market share was 17.7 percent.
The Upper Austrian News ruled: “The driven hunt in the wicked village doesn't end that surprisingly, but it ends abruptly and with question marks. Conclusion: A little less thick applied would have been really exciting. "
Volker Bergmeister from tittelbach.tv praised the entire ensemble, especially Enzo Gaier: "The 15-year-old [...] masters the difficult role of the accidental shooter who is plagued by remorse and cannot find anyone to help him with flying colors."
