action

The married couple Emma and Ferdinand Bauer are on vacation in South Africa . But even there, entrepreneur Ferdinand can only think of doing business. In a small town they are involved in a car accident, with Ferdinand getting off the road and driving into a shop. While he, Emma, and even the car are unharmed, the store's window is destroyed. Without paying for the damage, Ferdinand wants to drive back to the hotel immediately. On the way he and Emma get into an argument. Outraged by her husband's arrogant behavior, Emma gets out of the car and walks back to the small town with her suitcase, where she apologizes to the owner of the shop and pays her the damage. The owner, a German named Marnie Schlesinger, emigrated to South Africa with her father John many years ago. John had fallen in love with the ostrich farm owner Betty at the time. Since Betty's death, John has run the farm alone. However, the ostrich farm is far from being profitable, which is why John is already in debt. When investors want to build a golf course on his property, the sale of the farm seems inevitable.

While Ferdinand arrives at the hotel, Emma temporarily finds modest accommodation with the taciturn and solitary John. As they get to know each other better, she wants to help him and Marnie make the farm profitable again. She suggests using the farm as a tourist attraction, which John doesn't like at all. He is also upset that Marnie wants to marry Betty's brother Henry, the owner of the neighboring farm.

Meanwhile Ferdinand tries again and again to reach Emma by phone. John finally reports to Ferdinand, who is supposed to pick up his wife again. When Ferdinand arrives with them, Emma refuses to go with him. She wants to start a new life in Africa. Then John shows her the area. However, when the first tourists want to visit the ostrich farm, John stands up again, which is why Emma, disappointed, packs her things and leaves first on foot, later by bus. John follows her and stops the bus, whereupon Emma comes back to him. They spend the following night together. Nevertheless, Emma decides to go back to Germany. At Christmas she arrives in her wintry home. When she is having dinner with her son Markus and Ferdinand, John calls and tells her that he misses her. Six months later, Emma is still thinking about John. He is convinced that she will return to him. As he tends to an ostrich, he looks up at the sky and sees an aircraft approaching for landing.
