Location of Eisen in Saarland

Eisen is the highest part of the municipality of Nohfelden in Saarland . It is located at the mouth of the Eisbach in the Söterbach . The name goes back to the ore finds in the 14th and 15th centuries.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1334. The village belonged to the County of Sponheim before it was assigned to the Nohfelden office and thus the County of Zweibrücken . Presumably because of its convenient location, the place suffered from numerous war events. In the 17th century the place was completely deserted before it was made habitable again in 1650 by a Velten Feist from Nohfelden.

From 1817 to 1937, iron belonged to the Oldenburg principality of Birkenfeld .

To the north of Eisen there was the now closed barite quarry "Korb". In 1971 there was a rock breakage in which four miners died at a depth of 129 meters.

On January 1, 1974, iron was incorporated into the municipality of Nohfelden.
