Eitweg is a village and cadastral community at the foot of the Koralpe in Carinthia . The community, which was independent until 1973, is now part of St. Andrä . Eitweg has 667 inhabitants (as of 2001) and is located about 5 km east of the village of Sankt Andrä.
The name Eitweg (originally Eidweg ) was given to the place according to a legend by the Countess von Hartneidstein : Strangers had to take an oath before they could hike up to the castle. The Eidstein on the outskirts of Eitweg still bears witness to this custom today.
The “Eitweger Trio” made the place known beyond the borders of Carinthia with the song “Between Glockner and the Koralm” (composer: Helmut Stippich senior).
The soccer team of the Eitweg sports club, founded in 1976, plays in 1st class D. In tennis, the town is represented by the Eitweg tennis club. The SC Eitweg ski club has existed since 1968.
In every leap year, the traditional Schimmel parade takes place on Shrove Sunday. The Lavanttal Rally is held once a year in Eitweg .
