El Paso is a small town in the department of Cochabamba in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
El Paso is the central place of the canton El Paso in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Quillacollo in the province of the same name Quillacollo . The city is located at an altitude of 2647 m on the eastern bank of the Río Liriuni , which flows from the slopes of the Cordillera of Cochabamba into the basin of Cochabamba and formerly formed a two kilometer long lake directly west of El Paso, which was due to the population pressure in the Cochabamba valley has since been drained.

The 1,657-kilometer Ruta 4 highway runs through Cochabamba and Quillacollo and begins in the far west on the Chilean border at Tambo Quemado . It leads across the country via Quillacollo , Cochabamba and Villa Tunari to Santa Cruz and ends in the southeastern part of the country on the border with Brazil at the city of Puerto Quijarro .
In Quillacollo a country road leads north towards the town of Ironcollo , crosses the Río Liriuni to the east and leads along the left bank of the river via Pandoja to El Paso .

Due to the historical distribution of the population, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population. In the municipality of Quillacollo, 55.8 percent of the population still speak the Quechua language - despite the urban transformation .
