El Vendrell [ əl βənˈdɾeʎ ] is a Catalan city in the province of Tarragona in northeastern Spain . It is the capital of the Comarca Baix Penedès .
Geographical location
The city lies between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountain ranges, about 70 km southwest of Barcelona and 25 km northeast of Tarragona .

Culture
In El Vendrell was on 29. December 1876 the cellist , composer and pacifist Pau Casals was born. After his death on October 22, 1973, Pau Casals was first buried in San Juan de Puerto Rico . On November 9, 1979, after democracy was restored in Spain, his body was transferred to El Vendrell. The Casals Museum is located in the house where he was born. In front of the concert hall named after him stands a bust of Casal, created by Josep Maria Subirachs .
Business
El Vendrell is the capital of the Penedès wine-growing region and viticulture, in addition to industry, still plays an important role in economic life today.
